During the four days campaign that was hosted at the Romanian Parliament, Cotroceni Palace and the World Bank in Bucharest, the group of girls had the chance to interact with female leaders in politics, business, diplomacy and NGO in order to increase awareness about how women can and should play an important role in the political decision-making process and in the public sphere. Also, the girls had the opportunity to participate in several workshops held by Monica Jitariuc, Elena Calistru și Florentina Chiru and to learn about social media, active citizenship and gender equality.
The #Girl2Leader participants were hosted by the Presidential Administration, Sweden Embassy and the World Bank in Romania. The campaign encourages girls to consider a future in leadership and aims to get more girls involved in politics. This year, the #Girl2Leader campaign welcomed over 1,500 girls in events taking place in Albania, Bolivia, Canada, Guinea, Ireland, Kenya, Liberia, Malaysia, Malta, Poland, Rwanda, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, USA, and Monaco.
The campaign ended in each participating country with a conference and a live stream video from the international team of #Girl2Leader. În Romania, the event took place at the Palace of the Parliament and the conference speakers were H.E. Ms. Anneli Lindahl Kenny, Ambassador of Sweden in Bucharest, Ms. Tatiana Proskuryakova, Country Manager for Romania of the World Bank and Ms. Despina Andrei, Communication & Fundraising Manager at UNICEF.
I want to thank all my colleagues from Romanian Parliament and all the institutions that supported and accepted my invitation to be part of the first #Girl2Leader campaign in Romania.
